“Back To The Dreamtime” by H.Q. Mitchell is a novel about Aboriginal religion and culture .In this story, Richard, a young boy of Aboriginal descent who raised in white Australian society will having a journey with his brother Tom and his best friend Bradley. He starts his adventure because of the dream that he had have and a tjurunga he had found in the attic.

Richard is the main character in the story. He is a teenage Aboriginal boy grown up in a white Australian family. His father died when he was two years old. He was adopted by the McDonalds. He lives with his adoptive parents Joe and Sonya, older brother Tom, and his younger sister Judy. Richard lives with his adoptive family since he was two years old so he knows nothing about the Aboriginal religion and culture. Richard is a rational boy. He will think clearly based on reason before he make any decisions. For example, before he decided to find his father’s burial ground at Alice Springs, he had thought a lot about his dream, the tjurunga and what Aranda, the curator of the gallery had told him.

Tom is the adoptive older brother of Richard. He only two months older than Richard. He interested with photography. Tom is a humor person. He likes to joke with his family member. He was joking with Richard when he is day-dreaming beside the railway tracks. Besides that, Tom is a brother concern about Richard. He would like to go with Richard for his trip to find his father’s burial ground.

Richard and Tom are brothers without blood relationship. They are not only brother to each others, they are also very close and best friend. They always spent their time together such as sat besides the railway tracks before going to school every morning. They also told their future plan to each others. Tom offered to join Richard’s trip even he knew Richard was trying to sort out a serious matter and not going on holiday. And Richard was felt a lot better if...
