Lab Summary (20 points)

The purpose of this week’s lab is to gain the ability to configure IP on different interface types and RIP as a routing protocol. The second portion of the lab provides the ability to configure static and default routes and Implementing floating static routes.

The skills obtained from completing this lab include:

Basic RIP configuration skills including -

 Configuring Ethernet interface IP addresses

 Configuring hostnames on devices

 Configuring IP RIP routing

 Configuring serial interface IP addresses

 Configuring static hostname-to-address mapping

 Determining IP routing status by reviewing the IP route table

 Enabling interfaces

 Enabling privilege mode operation

 Using CDP information to review network status

 Using Ping and trace

 Using Telnet as a test of connectivity

Configuring network redundancy with floatings static routes, including:

 Adjusting the administrative distance of routes

 Configuring default routes with a non-default administrative distance

 Configuring floating static routes

 Configuring IP RIP routing

 Configuring static and default routes

 Configuring static routes with a non-default administrative distance

 Determining IP routing status by reviewing the IP route table

 Migrating from RIP routing to static routes

 Removing a routing protocol

 Reviewing debug ip packet information

This lab was useful in the fact that it provides skills required for the practical portion of running network using RIP as a routing protocol.
