Business Concept #3
Interview/Tractor and Bin Lift
1. Interviewed people and information- Gary Reinhart, aged 45, degree from Iowa State University in Agriculture. Scott Hillebo, aged 49, degree from Iowa State University in Agriculture. John Hillebo, aged 73, high school education.
2. Exhisting product or business- All three farm in Polk County. Scott and John’s farms are three miles north of Polk City and Gary’s is two miles north of Alleman. Scott and John farm 1700 acres of row crop and Gary farms around 1200 acres of row crop and has a farrow to finish business.
3. Primary needs/concerns from interview- I received a lot of ideas and information from all three of them but I concluded on one reoccurring thing, they all had some sort of knee or back injuries. Throughout a farmers life they put their bodies in many different stressful activities. Scott has had two knee replacements, two knee scopes, and one shoulder replacement. John has had two knee replacements and dealt with countless broken bones. Gary has back troubles and one knee replacement. It came to my attention that all of these guys have climbed up and down tractors, combines, and bins all their life. The kind of stress this puts on the body and its joints can wear them out quite fast. So the needs I recognize is a hydraulic lift for bins, combines, and tractors.
4. Business concept and opportunity-
Product/Service I am envisioning-
I would design and distribute the hydraulic lifts and sell them to tractor and bin dealerships to add as an option for new and old tractors and bins.
Who is the customer or market segment served by your business?
The customer initially would be tractor and bin dealerships but ultimately be farm owners and acreage owners. The market would be in the agriculture industry mainly in heavily agricultural areas.
