Statement of Financial Need

Over the last two years, I have been a pay-as-I-go student. I have been fortunate enough to be able to work full-time while going to school. However, being able to work full-time means

I did not qualify for any grants and only qualified for a portion of expected costs in loans. I have applied for financial aid and have been approved for $12,500 in subsidized and unsubsidized student loans for the entire 2013-2014 school year. I am expected to be able to afford the remaining, approximately $14,000 according to PSU, out-of-pocket expenses which do not include any of the abroad costs.

I will not be working for the duration of my trip to Denmark in order to focus on school and absorb as much of the culture as I can. This will require me to have a significant amount of money saved and on loan to survive in one of the world’s most expensive cities. The cost of the CBS program and estimated living expenses will range anywhere from $18,000 to as much as $30,000 according to the Oregon University Systems website for the 2013 summer and fall terms. These numbers do not include any additional traveling or extracurricular activities I may wish to participate in.

I will be participating in the Danish crash-course language program which can help offset some of the living expenses should I be selected as a scholarship recipient. Currently, I am over a third of the way to my necessary minimum costs and in the process of exploring all of my finance options.
