If some research studies are to be believed, few years down the line obesity will become an “epidemic” in its own right in UK (Boland, 2010). Pick up any daily newspaper or magazine, you will not find even a single one which does not talk about ill-founded assertions that the present generation of children will die before their parents. According to the figures released by Department of health in UK, the number of obese children belonging to poor families is almost double in comparison to the number of obese children belonging to a rich family. Recent government figure indicated that almost 25 percent of the total most deprived children falling in the age group of 11 years were obese. In comparison, just 14 percent of this age group belonging to wealthy families was found overweight. In case of poor families, it has been observed that children do not get healthy food because of the cost factor. Parents belonging to this income class can afford fruits and other healthy food items only when there is any kind of rise or gain in their income. Thus they fail to provide healthy food items on regular basis to their children. On the other hand, parents belonging to an average income class or upper level income class focus more on healthy food like fruits, nuts and protein rich diet etc. thus leading to a balanced diet for their kids

Obesity or overweight is such an issue which should be taken care of well because it has emerged as a serious issue with having many ill-effects on health. Nature and causes of obesity is required to be studied in details. Eating pattern, lifestyle, genetic inheritance, increased alcohol intake and environment are the main causes which helps obesity to increase day by day (Vatta, 2000).
