The documentary (1996) presented a view of the current situation of how criminals, especially youth Criminals are treated in Saskatchewan province. In the film, director gave us a full view of how Punishment is implemented, including the concept of chain gangs and restorative justice. In the film, many people works in the law area have the idea of “being forgiving “ for the first-time criminals, they believe that restorative justice could actually restore justice by giving enough phycology service and fixing criminal’s phycology problem. As long as I am concerned, the restorative justice is double-bladed,

and we must use them very carefully.

As the definition of restorative justice suggest, it focuses on the recovery of both victims and offenders, instead of the punishment of the offenders. A big question comes along :” how could we tell what kind of criminals deserves the restorative justice and others should be punished severely?” This kind of so called justice does not have enough liability to ensure the criminals is truly confessed and will not strike again, and worst scenario of all, some criminals might hurt the victim again, that could bring unexpected harm to the recovery of the victim.

What’s more, since restorative justice requires “face to face communication”, there is a great chance that the victim is not willing to going through this again, they might feel that their justice has not been done, and going through the session is like being violated by the law itself. The mediation between the victims and offenders can be very complicated and personal, and never should not be forced by law. “We should start recognising the needs of victims, Says Wright, Martin, This would apply to all victims if they needed it and we have to remember that the harm suffered by victims varies greatly from very slight to devastating”.
