Ashland Health Center Training Program Outline

Working with Ashland Health Center (AHC) this past academic year has allowed our team to gain a more in-depth perspective on the nation-wide issues facing rural critical access centers similar to AHC. We have found that AHC's necessity to recruit and retain quality CNAs for their long-term care unit is not unique to Ashland, but is a widespread issue due to the rural location of affected critical access centers and the nature of the CNA position. We have recognized that recruiting an "ideal" CNA candidate, who is compassionate, dedicated to the position, and will remain a long-term employee, is what is most difficult for these establishments.

From our primary and secondary research, our team has determined that Ashland Health Center will be able to most effectively recruit and retain quality CNAs for its long-term care unit if it focuses on providing in-house nurse aid training, developing its internal organizational structure, and creating programs that enhance its community relations. These three objectives will be met with several detailed tactics that we hope to further develop and present to Ashland Health Center representatives at the end of the academic year.

We feel that the most extensive and important objective in our plan is the development of a program through which AHC will be able to offer in-house CNA training to interested parties. This objective will be used as the foundation to our overall template and will be augmented by our additional objectives. In this paper we will present a more detailed and comprehensive outline of our specific research findings regarding this training program and our proposed tactics that will allow AHC to achieve this objective.
