CCOMMERCIALIZING OF SPORTS

Sports have become a gigantic industry and this turning of sports from a human and past time into a business with a goal of accumulating profit has changed the fundamental values behind sports. Though commercializing of sports have has made it more interesting and popular but it has compromised the true spirit of the game and has given rise to illegal practices.

Commercializing of sports has made it more interesting and more popular. After commercializing of sports many international sports channel have started and resultantly sports have become more popular as their viewership has increased tremendously. Moreover, sports are now being broadcasted live thus the viewer’s feel more excited and the interest and their involvement in the game has increased as they feel that they are connected with the game. Thus, huge amount is spent on stadiums to make them more attractive and beautiful and the tv channel involvement and the sponsorship money has brought money into sports.

The monster of unbridled capitalism has a tendency to take all sectors of traditional life and manipulate them to serve its own growth; therefore the commercializing of sports is beginning to kill the true spirit of game as it is replacing its essence with the interests of the capitalist-consumer culture. Advertisers are anxious to pay over a million dollars to a star cricketer for a 30 second commercial and therefore, they are paying more attention towards advertisement as to compared to the performance in cricket matches.

Commercializing of sports has also given rise to various illegal practices. It has resulted in huge involvement of money in the game and creates a lot of pressure on the players. In order to cope with their pressure and to enhance their performance they start taking illegal drugs.
