The views of Ray Kurzweil are extremely interesting as they pertain to the acceleration power of technology. Kurzweil’s views are definitely something that should be considered for any student concerned about their future as it relates to the technology field. It appears as though Kurzweil and his ten member team have been hard at work to determine the exponential growth of technology onward to the year 2020 and beyond. To become successful using Kurzweil’s theories, the current student must consider the history of technological growth, Moore’s Law, and artificial intelligence.

Students must understand that the growth of technology is rapid and real. The simplified version of Gordon E. Moore’s Law states that processor speeds, or overall processing power for computers will double every two years (Moore, 2013). While many argue that Moore’s Law is more relative to transistors rather than computer speed, there is no denying that technology growth is definitely impacted by the exponential growth, evident by the growth of PC’s, worldwide web, and cellphone advances over a 10 year span, tech students must consider where the technology will be in the future to secure the best job in the year 2020 and beyond.

If Kurzweil’s theory continues to hold true, technology will enable the development of software capable of artificial intelligence and reversed engineering to name a few. Moore believes that progress and technology is exponential and not linear. I would have to say that I agree with his outlook. Tech students must consider Moore’s view as it pertains to medical advances, tech development, and transistor use. Failure to do so would put a student at a significant disadvantage. I would recommend that anyone interested in the future of technology take heed to the teachings of Mr. Kurzweil and continue to make advancements in the industry.
