ASSIGNMENT (30%)

The Assignment: Challenges in Managing People

Objective of Assignment: This assignment aims to provide an opportunity for students to link theory that they have learned in the course with practice. The assignment also aims to expose students to the challenges faced by managers through real life experience of practicing managers.

Required:

Step 1: Form a group of 4 – 5 members and register your group in a link that will be made available to you in the TIMes by Week 8. Assessment will be based on group.

Step 2: Think of a potential manager/business owner that you can interview and carry out the interview. Your group is required to interview or get up-close and personal with a manager/business owner to find out on the following:

1. Background of the company (Organizational Structure and culture of the company)

2. His/her daily routine as a manager, managerial functions and roles in the organization

3. Any TWO (2) issues/challenges/problems encountered by the manager/business owner and how he/she solved it. The issues selected can be from any topics of the module. Some suggestions are provided below:

a. Difficulty in developing strong culture in organization

b. Aggressive competition in the industry/market

c. Conflicts between employees/intragroup conflicts

d. Conflicts between manager and employees

e. Demotivated employees

f. Any other issue that the manager encountered

4. Fill up and obtain signature from the manager as evidence of genuine using the Confirmation by Interviewee form (Appendix B). Take a photo together with the manager too for this purpose.

Step 3: Display and Deliver the Outcome of Interview Using Appropriate Mode.
