Renewable Energy

I believe that the world should not depend on our oil and coal resources alone. It has been proven that our renewable energy sources can last indefinitely and all but one are based on sunlight (1988). The constant use of coal and oil has shown to be disastrous to our planet. The ground, air, and water alike have become heavily polluted because of our overuse of fossil fuels. Using more natural resources has been in the spotlight for many years now all because of its benefits and potential to reverse or slow down the destruction of our planet.

One habit that hinders my thinking on this particular subject would be the ‘mine is better that yours’ habit. I approach this issue with this attitude because of the fact that our children and their children and their grandchildren have to live on this earth. If we continue to destroy it, what will our children have to face. We already have many problems to deal with in this day because of our unhealthy environment. We face illnesses such as asthma, cancers, emphysema and many others because the very air we depend on to live is literally poisoned with the by-products of burning these fossil fuels. We the people have to constantly some up with new gimmicks and products to protect us from the sun that seems to shine so beautifully. But that very sun can kill if you linger too long. This is a result of the ozone layer-our natural filter- that has also been diminished by pollution.

One way that I can overcome this hindrance is by taking the time to understand the other side of the issue. On the other hand, if it had been proven that fossil fuels are killing us, then who would encourage their future use? I would even go as far as to say that it could be split 50/50. In the late 1990’s almost 90% of UK energy sources came from fossil fuels (2009). At least if we are not solely depending on them, maybe we can at least slow down this bad process...
