1. Describe three approaches to motivation. Explain how each approach affects motivation.

2. Theorists vary on why we experience emotions. Discuss at least two different theories related to emotional experiences.

3. Choose one positive and one negative emotion related to being a student. Provide one example for each of how these emotions may affect your performance in class.

4. Summarize two theories of intelligence. What are the benefits and drawbacks to intelligence testing?

There are many types of theories of intelligences one type of intelligence is called practical intelligence which is the ability to adapt to the environment and often reflects what is commonly called “street smarts”. Sternberg notes that what is required to adapt successfully in one particular situation or culture may be very different from what is needed in another situation or culture. He stresses that the behaviors that reflects practical intelligence can vary depending on the particular situation, environment, or culture. The benefit of having practical intelligence is that you can adapt to where you are and learn from your environment so you won’t be lost.

Another theory of intelligence is called Analytic intelligence which is the mental process used in learning how to solve problems, such as picking a problem solving strategy and applying it.
