Benefits of Military Service

Abraham Lincoln once said “To care for those who shall borne the battle, and for his widow and orphans.” This is the principle we should continue to uphold; in providing compensation to the men and women wearing the uniform. Although US military offers many benefits that are not available to a civilian, however, joining the military is a challenging moment in a person’s life, and has a very significant effect on his or her own family. The US military provides one of the best compensation and retirement packages; in comparison with many countries in the world. Sometimes neglected and disregarded by some, our military endure many sacrifices; the service and sacrifice of a military service member may include time away from home, long deployment to dangerous places, and even the ultimate sacrifice. Although there are challenges and sacrifices, however, the military provides education, specialized training, healthcare, job security, retirement package, and opportunities for traveling to different places in the world.

The military has a wide range of job specialties from which any service member can choose upon entering or at any time during their career. Unlike civilians who usually must maintain a job in order to have an income, military personnel are paid while in school learning occupational skills. Furthermore, during the military training, an individual will learn leadership, management, and organizational skills for personal growth and development. The military also provide one of the best medical and dental care insurance with no co-pay or additional cost. For military personnel on active duty abroad or stateside, healthcare will be free for their family.
