Critical review 2

Love is the greatest gift we can ever hope to give or receive. Love is the one thing that can motivate us to overcome so many of the difficult times in life. Love is so powerful - it can turn frowns into smiles. A series of four reading texts, written by Joseph A.Devito in the Interpersonal Communication Book, and edited by B.Seal in Academic Encounters - Human Behavior book, can provide the readers with a plenty of interesting information about some aspects of “Love”. In this short review, I want to emphasize on two main points: their meaningful contents and various styles.

Through the first text "Similarity", the author explains the reasons why you love a person; it may be the similarities of both in their thinking or attitude. It also may be because of their attractive appearance; impressions on their prestige, money, intelligence and power; or they share the same opinion in almost problems. Then, another reason of falling in love with other person mentioned in the second text, called "complementarity principle" concept. More detailed, the author indicated that people are attracted to those who are different from themselves. The more dissimilar they are, the more attracted by each other they will be. Next, Joseph listed four different types of love. They are lusdus, storge, mania, pragma and eros. The author shows that ludic lover considers love entertainment and excitement while the storgic one think love means peaceful and slow. Another kind of lover is called "manic", elation and depression are what the people belong to this group illustrate about love. The two last types of love mentioned are pragma lover and erotic one, the first lover tends to seek a physically beautiful lover and an intensely physical relationship while the second one focuses on beauty and sexuality in love....
