ADR is the acronym for Alternative Dispute Resolution. Alternative Dispute Resolution are methods of resolving disputes other than litigation (Cheeseman, 2010). ADRs are used as a way to avoid expensive and time-consuming lawsuits. The ADR process allows companies to settle disputes without going to court. Some types of ADR processes that are used by companies include: arbitration, mediation, negotiation, mini-trials, conciliation, fact-finding, and the use of a judicial referee. Each type of ADR is different and uses a different method to achieve the same result, which is to settle outside of court. Also, the ADR process is helpful in any team environment. At University of Phoenix, the coursework includes working on learning teams. In the learning teams, the team members must learn how to deal with conflict. To help deal with conflict, the learning teams must create team charters. The ADR process is a useful tool to include in the learning team charter to help deal with disputes as they arise. The below will provide an ADR clause that can be used in any learning team charter.

We believe that the team should work together and share equally in assignments and discussions as well as the direction and governance of the team. Likewise, it is the expectation of each team member to value the opinions all members. Our team is comprise of team members who share the same vision for success. Our expectation is our team will function without conflict, the reality is sometimes it is difficult for certain personalities to work together productively. We ask that all team members embrace the concepts of acceptance, patience, and tolerance. This is a team problem that our team will first use negotiation to settle. If negotiation does not work, the team will use mediation. The mediator for this specific situation is the instructor of the class.
