I enjoy getting deals in my inbox - of course, as long as they are useful! But there’s no denying that most marketing emails drive people (including me) nuts because of their sheer nonsense.

No wonder, spamming and use of illegitimate methods for getting customers’ addresses by some marketers have given email marketing a bad reputation. Below are some effective and legitimate strategies that I have come to realize work the right way to get leads and conversions through email.

A prominently placed email sign up box on your website home page can do wonders. Being upfront and directly requesting visitors for email sign up is the best policy. In return, you can offer tips and advice, newsletters and information on new products or services that interest your target customers and provide value.

Your offers and promotions should be worth customer’s efforts

Before planning your promotions or special offers, find out what kind of contests and prizes would interest your target audience. Such contest with cash prizes or any other suitable prizes like free trips can get you many signups. It is still debatable if this strategy can get you long-term customers. But you can definitely try this strategy - especially an incentive based promotional offer can help you get long-term customers.

Newsletters are a great way to keep in touch with your customers and keep them interested. For success of this strategy, it is important that the newsletters contain interesting and informative content, which will be valued by the customers.

In case you rent customer lists, inform them about it in your email

Although I do not recommend renting lists of customer addresses; in case you take help of a marketing or industry list, you need to inform customers about it. Some customers may not remember...
