Mothers of Pre-Schoolers, better known as MOPS, is an organization that brings together mothers of young children for socializing, learning, and growing as an individual and mother. According to the MOPS (2012) website, “MOPS International is a Christian non-profit organization that believes in working with local Christian churches/parachurches to maximize ministry opportunities to God’s Kingdom. MOPS programs are chartered in churches of many different denominations and Christian traditions, but all share the common desire to reach out with the gospel of Jesus Christ and to bring glory to God in everything.” In 1981, MOPS established a board of directors and incorporated first as MOPS Outreach, and later as MOPS, Inc. Shortly after in 1988, MOPS expanded beyond United States borders and was renamed MOPS International, Inc. to reflect the international impact of the ministry. This essay will describe the culture and common characteristics of the MOPS organization, which includes the organization’s system, rules and norms, chain of command, communication styles and networks, leadership approaches, and the decision-making process.

The MOPS organization began with eight women; however, in 1989 MOPS had grown to such a capacity the organization created a chartering process, hired staff, and started gathering and distributing resource materials to MOPS groups nationwide. This achievement was possible because of the first president of MOPS, Elisa Morgan. Elisa’s communication and management style is join.
