Executive Summary

This report provides an understanding on sustainability that influences organisational behaviour and analysis of Organisational Structure and Design. Methods of analysis include environmental, financial, technology, social and economic factors which affect the organisation’s transition to keep the business sustainable. Other discussion includes why managers need to have an understanding of sustainability and a proposed recommendations. Results of the factors analysed shows the interrelation between sustainability and management of the organisation. In particular, economics have the most influence as there are close relationship with financial, environmental and social sectors.

Analysis shows that environmental issues affects the employee’s behaviour in their job satisfaction and will feel good if they could contribute positively to the environment. Financial are not only about savings and cost cutting but by creating activities through brain-storming sessions to improve performance and future investments. Keeping up with better technology is the trend of organisations in this era but it affects the work flows and may affect unemployment if not tackled properly. In social context, ‘remanufacturing’ process of machines encourages job enlargement and motivates employees to be innovative towards business sustainability for future generations to be socially responsible. Lastly looking at when economic looks gloomy, intervention such as downsizing will help in reducing costs and keep finances level at a rate that can sustain the business.

The report uses an example of a medium sized, processed food factory with 200 workers. Its current position is not positive due to an economic downturn. While it affects the demand and supply of their processed food, the major area affected the most are their finances and those branches out to employment issues, processes and other social factors.
