The organization I chose is ManTech International. This is a company I am very familiar with because I have worked for this organization for the past six years. ManTech is a large government contractor. When I began working there we employed just over 3000 employees worldwide and we provided mostly IT support and management. As the contracting industry began to change and more services were required we expanded into technical and equipment support of military vehicles, logistics, and contract administration. We quickly grew to over 10,000 employees in a short period of time. As you can imagine, this created a need for employees with very specific KSA’s. It also presented the challenges of creating the ability to train employees in very remote locations without affecting mission critical support.

The contracting industry continues to change and as government budget cuts continue the industry becomes more and more competitive. The surge now is to compete for more contracts that support government efforts stateside such as the State Department, Department of Justice, and even medical agencies. In order to maintain a competitive edge Mantech must demonstrate a proactive strategy in training along with their overall business objectives.

When assessing the current trends in training it seems that all certainly apply when considering Mantech “will need to continuously realign their activities to meet new conditions” (Blanchard & Thacker, 2010). Aligning training with business strategy will need to be a “top priority” and “will not only include training managers, but also of HR managers and other business executives” (Blanchard &Thacker, 2010).
