My response to a survival guide would be using a smartphone’s capabilities to create an application that is a user-friendly student portal that gives you access to everything. It is to help new university students settle in easily and comfortably. Staying connected to people within the same course is crucial as this means you can interact, discuss and share information about projects and everything else.
Whoever has a smartphone that enables 3G access can be involved in staying connected on the go. However students can also run this application online.
Functions
i. List of all activities associated with the university as well as local club night information i.e. special guest performances,
ii. An instant messaging service
iii. Live feed of information all around the clock.
iv. Class changes, deadlines, feedback & improvement pointers.
v. Facebook interactions
How it can help
This app is designed in response to a survival guide for students. It has a language support feature so all students of ethnic backgrounds can fully utilize this app.
This app was designed for first year students wanting to settle in quickly and comfortably as possible. Interacting with other students for the first time can be difficult for some, this application serves as a ice breaker for everyone wanting to get involved and participate in activities allowing students to make friends and make the most of the university experience.
