* There were attempts to add additional coverage to the Children’s Internet Protection Act 2000 and to the Online Privacy Protection Act 1998 on all large social sites, such as facebook, twitter, and myspace. More attempts have been made recently to add stricter policies to the children’s internet protection act, but have not yet been passed into law. While the Internet is a great technology it has also became an unsafe and unethical source for children. There are too many websites that are target to harm children. That is why the act of 2000 and the act of 1998 were both establish to protect children online from unethical issues. Children 13 years and under are covered by these acts and online companies have to obey by the Federal Trade Commission rules.

The advances in information technology that resulted in new ethnical issues, which required the creation of the internet protection act of 2000, are harmful contents towards under the age of 13. The Children Internet Act was to be signed into law in 2000 and it was designed to protect children from harmful online contents which are forced by schools and libraries. The reason why this act was established was to protect school age children from items such as inappropriate pictures and porno contents that are online. While using school and libraries computers those sites would be filtered so the children could not access those types of websites. While this is only affective on school and libraries computers, children should still be monitored at home because these websites might not be blocked.

Another act that was established to protect children was Children’s Online Privacy Act 1998. This protection act is to protect children’s personal information, while it is not illegal for children to give out their person information, this act filters which websites children are allowed to access and are limited to such access.
