The education and requirement to become a paramedic are extremely oppressive. In order to become a paramedic you must get certified as an EMT-B which is the most basic knowledge of Emergency Medical Technician training. The time needed to complete this takes about six months to complete. After that you must take a state certification test. There are colleges that offer a two-year degree program in paramedic studies. The basic classes are biology, math, and english in order to be accepted in a paramedic program. Both classroom training and clinical training at hospital are done through this program. The final requirement is to take a state’s licensing examination.

The types of licensures paramedics can receive are as following; The National Registry of Emergency Technician, License to drive an ambulance, helicopter, and boat. Most medical services hire separate driver/pilots. In order to receive a license to drive an ambulance EMT’s must take eight hours of training before they can drive an ambulance.

Paramedics have a very stressful job so in order to be a paramedic you have to have certain qualities. A paramedic must be compassionate; you’re helping people in life threating situations so you have to provide emotional support. Listening skills allow you to understand what your patient is going under. Physical strength being a very important factor you have to be in shape and be able to lift people in stressful situations. Communication skills are very important you have to be able to communicate with the people around like coworkers and patients. EMT’s work in a very dangerous environment they are easily exposed to diseases and people with violent behaviors such as overdose victims. Work hours are strenuous and challenging but also rewarding.
