DIAGNOSTIC MODELS

How can we analyze the functioning of our organization? How can we look at the position it holds achieving certain objectives? Such questions have been asked for many years and there are different ways of achieving these answers. Many approaches are been made to find the factors affecting the working of an organization, some look at the internal factors, some at the external factors. Some combine these perspectives and correspond between them. Looking at all these factors many diagnostic models were designed since last few decades, ensuring that all parts of the organization are working in harmony. Many just came in and went out of fashion but few are still used by organizations to ensure the success (step by step approach) and proper working of their organization. One of them is the Burke-Litwin model.

Burke-Litwin Model

The Burke-Litwin model shows various factors and various drivers of change. It can be seen from the diagram that these factors are ranked and arranged from the high level to the low level. The top level factors are given more importance and gradually the lower levels are given lesser importance. But the change in on factor will affect the entire organization or all the other factors. Burke-Litwin believed that external change is the most important factor for an organization. Internal changes and implications are made according to the changes in the external factors....
