The British author William Golding wrote the suspenseful novel Lord of the Flies. The book is about a group of prep school boys who crash land on island. The two main characters names are Ralph and Jack. Ralph finds a conch and blows into it to signal the other boys. After everyone is there he and Jack wants to be in charge of them. After the boys pick Ralph to be their leader, Ralph choses Jack to be in charge of the choir, they will be the hunters in charge of finding food like fruit, meat, etc. They will also be in charge of keeping a signal fire going so they can be rescued. Later on in the novel Jack decides that he wants to be in charge so he takes his hunters and whoever else wanted to go away from Ralph. Near the end of the book Piggy, a chubby kid with specs and asthma, gets killed by Jack’s tribe. Shortly after Piggy’s death, Jack and the others try to kill Ralph. Before they could Ralph runs into a naval officer who has come to rescue them. Golding tries to show that there is some good and evil in the world through this novel. He shows the good in this world through Ralph and the bad through Jack. Golding using many ways to show good and evil in the world and he uses Jack, Ralph, fire, and Piggy’s glasses to show this.

Golding uses Jack and Ralph to show the good and bad in people in the world and who can be in charge in life threating situations. Ralphs shows that there is good and strong leadership in this world by trying to lead a strong group of kids. He shows that a good community is lead with rules and strong leader. Even though he chooses the good path it is not an easy path to follow. “We still need rules to keep order here and we will raise our hand to speak and be called on” (Golding 26). Ralph was the one who wanted to keep order and Jack wanted to run things his own way. Jack wanted to be in charge of his own little group and decided to choose the bad way to rule things.
