E-Business Plan Part 1 McDonald's Corporation

McDonald’s started as a driving restaurant by two brothers, Richard and Maurice McDonald’s in California, in the year 1937 and has become the world’s largest chain of fast food restaurants. By mid-1950s, the restaurant’s revenues had reached $ 350,000. Ray Kroc, distributor for milkshake machine, expressed interest in the business and he finalized a deal for franchising with the McDonald’s brother in 1954. He established a franchising, the McDonald system Inc. and appointed franchisees. In 1961, he bought out the McDonald’s brothers’ shares for $ 2.7 million and changed the name of the company to McDonald’s Corporation. By 1991 McDonald's owned $13 billion of fast-food industry, operating 12,400 restaurants in 59 countries (Ezine, 2007). The company recorded revenues of $21,586 million during the fiscal year ended December 2006 an increase of 8.8% over 2005. The company’s mission statement states that McDonald’s strives “to be our customers’ favorite place and way to eat” (McDonald Operation’s Resource Center, 2007). McDonald’s company’s vision states a “commitment to our customers, to our owner and operators, to our suppliers, and to the communities we serve”. Their values summarized in “Q.S.C.V” (Quality, Service, cleanliness and value) and their objective is to provide good quality and services to customer; have a clean environment where customers enjoy their meal and the value for food. (McDonald’s Operation Resource Center, 2007). This demonstrates management’s commitment in reliability toward its internal and external stakeholders. McDonald’s restaurants are found in 120 countries and territories around the world and it operates over 31,000 restaurants worldwide. In addition, 80% of its revenues come from 8 countries which include Canada, Brazil, Germany, France, Japan, United Kingdom, Australia, and United States.
