Garbage: Harmful To The Society

Flash floods greatly affect Filipinos, which has become a big problem to the society. For a number of years, flash floods around the country have destroyed homes, the livelihood of Filipinos and even risked people’s lives (VERA Files, 2012). But what is the cause of this? There are many reasons as to why flash floods occur but there are only a few main reasons.

Garbage. Everywhere you go and everywhere you look around, there is garbage. This is one of the main reasons why there are flash floods. Garbage that is not thrown properly nor segregated properly usually just gets thrown wherever such as the streets, rivers, creeks and many more. The garbage that is not segregated properly causes the drains to clog, which results to flooding during typhoons or heavy rains due to low-pressure areas or monsoons. These floods affect the Filipinos, which has been a continuing problem in the society.

Why do people throw garbage wherever they want? People have continuously blamed the government saying that the government is the reason why drains are still clogged up and not fixed, which results to floods especially in the low-lying areas (Relos, 2012). These wastes that are just being thrown wherever by the people can start piling up and result to covering the drainage systems around the area. This causes the clogging of the drains and is the reason why whenever there are heavy rains flash floods occur. Although the government’s lack of efficiency in providing a better garbage disposal system is a reason as to why flash floods occur, it is still up to the citizens as to whether they decide to continue doing what they do by just throwing their wastes wherever they want or to start segregating their garbage properly (Relos, 2012).

In the country,...
