The Paradise Story (Group, 2012) began with a small and humble 25-seater coffee shop in Defu Lane in 2002. Its location was inconspicuously set in an industrial area. In many ways, it lacked glitz and glamour but the taste and creativities in their food offered more than made up for it. The foodies in Singapore came by in the droves, in support of the sumptuous yet reasonably priced dishes. Motivated and spurred by this success, their founder, Mr. Eldwin Chua, was determined to make Seafood Paradise a prominent showcase and opened a second outlet at the iconic Singapore Flyer. This outlet was the turning point for Seafood Paradise and brought them to the height of attention. The brand gathered not just a local fan base but an international crowd appreciative of Singapore seafood delights. Then, Paradise was poised to grow into a successful brand. Within a short span of 10 years, the Paradise Empire grew rapidly into six well-received restaurant concepts with more than fifteen Restaurants Island wide and plans for more new concept and addition of six or more new outlets by end of 2011. Apart from their restaurants, Paradise Group has also started a catering arm which brings the irresistible taste of paradise to homes, private and corporate functions.

5 factors Macro-Environment Analysis

Being a SME in such a small country like Singapore is not easy. Paradise Group is also facing challenges when they need to expand their business. First of all, Singapore Government had recently tightened the Labour law (The Business Times, 2012). This created a labour crunch in the whole country. Everyone is trying the get manpower and talent in the tight labour market. If Paradise Group is not able to employ enough workers, they will not be able to expand or add more outlets in Singapore.
