1.1. INTRODUCTION

This chapter will discuss the research background, problem statement, objectives, research questions, hypotheses of the research, the significance of the research, scope of the research, operational definitions and summary.

1.2. RESEARCH BACKGROUND

Job stress is the most important health issues to be faced by management of a company or organization. Job stress that hit these workers sometimes resulting in decreased work commitment among employees who ultimately have a negative impact on the running of the organization. The situation will be even worse if there are employees who are just now potential employees decided to resign from the organization. Therefore, this case seriously needs to be addressed as an employee is an asset to the organization and if employee’s lifeless means that the organization will also collapsed.

Nowadays, the problem of job stress is more complex since employees had to deal with the use of technology, the explosion of information technology and globalization. Roles, challenges, goals and current situation is also different with the past era where more simple.

According to Cockburn (1996), stress is really important in life, and everyone needs a small amount of stress. This is because, the stress can be positive to humans. In fact, without a small amount of stress in our life, human would die due to suffering extreme boredom. Fatimah (1998), argues that a person's life will be better prepared when facing stress because it is odd life and self-test capability to be someone more ready and eager to face the future.

When we talk about job stress, not everyone can get away from the stress. Since the stress is a continuous, anytime and anywhere, then every human must face it.
