Arson is the willful or malicious burning of property (such as a building) especially with criminal or harmful intent. The cause of the fire may have not been determined but they suspect arson (“Arson,” 2012). Arson attacts continues to happen daily and can cause grief for ones loss. Arsonists sets fires to items or buildings sometimes just to get insurance claims. Anyone that sets a fire intentionally is an arsonist.

Arson in Albany Georgia

In 2008, the arson rate in Albany, Gerogia was 1,637 reported in the state of Georgia. The rate per 100,000 was 16.9 percent. Albany reported a total of 28 arsons between 5 cities. Dougherty reported 27 out of the 28 arsons whereas, Worth reported only 1 arson. The other cities reported none for 2008. 83 people 16 and under were arrested for arson in the state for the year 2008. 92 people were ages 17-21. 106 were ages 22-29. 109 were between the ages of 30-39. 78 were ages 40-49 whereas, 57 people were ages 50 and over. The Arson rate for Albany went up and down from 2004-2008. In 2008 they suffered several arsons and under half were arrested.

Arson in Augusta GA-SC

Augusta reported 193 arsons between 4 counties during 2008. Richmond reported the majority with with 184 arsons. Columbia reported second with 8 and Burke County reported only 1. 414 of the

arsons reported in Georgia were male and 111 were females. 266 were white and 259 were non-white. In 2008 Augusta suffered a big loss by arson. A historic train depot, home, and a cabin were destroyed. The arsonists was arrested and charged with second degree arson for the fires at the plantation.
