There are many things to learn in the field of business, however one of the most important factors that a professional should learn is proper business etiquette in a variety of scenarios. Many companies use cubicles for their employees to work in. It is to create an employee’s own personal space for them to work in. Do you know proper etiquette when working in a cubicle? Many people do not know how to act when working in a cubicle environment.

In an article entitled “The Four P’s of Cubicle Etiquette”, there is a listing of many rules that should be followed if you are ever faced with working in a cubicle environment. There is a certain etiquette that one should follow when working in a cubicle and the list that is presented is a great how-to beginning.

The first on the list is “Privacy” (Etiquette Page). You should never enter into another worker’s cubicle without lightly knocking or trying to announce your presence. If the worker you are going to try to speak to is on the phone you should leave and wait until later, allowing them privacy in their own office space. You should NEVER talk over the wall of a cubicle trying to talk to your neighboring worker. Get up and walk to their cubicle for your conversation.

The next principle is “PCS”(Etiquette Page). You should not attempt to read your co-worker’s computer screen when you are in their office. Take the time to lower the volume on your computer and keep the loud typing on your keyboard to a minimum. Both of these can be a big distraction to others while trying to work.

You should also consider your “Phones” (Etiquette Page). It is important to keep personal phone calls at a minimum and speak quietly. Be sure to turn on your voicemail when you are away from your desk so that the excessive ringing with no answer will not bother others. Try not to use speakerphone unless it is absolutely necessary to do so. If you do have to use it, remember the volume rule and keep the volume low.
