1. Write a minimum of 500 word essay concerning an overview and summary of the Introduction and Chapter 1 of your text. Discuss the knowledge you gained concerning the major topics and what confusion or uncertainty may have arisen through your research and studies. The first half of the paper should identify the author's main points. The second half of your paper should be your contribution. Offer an assessment of the author's points, apply the points to examples, support all comments and information with verifiable research, and do not give opinion.

Over thousands of years, there has been much research prepared on the basis of religion, what were determinates that qualified a religion to be so, and how religions originated from people seeking support by praying to unknown gods or spirits. Authors, Lewis Hopfe and Mark Woodward, discuss religion as an emotional crutch used in many nations and in the extensive sense that there is an unseen imperative in which our supreme good lies that we must adjust ourselves to. These studies lead to the conclusion that religion was a set of beliefs having to deal with the gods in which one could find peace, whether it be for a moral system or to deliver oneself from plight in a religious manner.

Religion can be viewed in multiple directions dependent upon the nation it belongs to. The sense of distress or awe one feels in the presence of a spirit or god defines religion. Religion, only thought to be the beliefs through which someone is taught a moral system, also consists of nontheistic beliefs. These beliefs, belonging to Jainism and some forms of Buddhism, recognize existence of gods but have little to do with them as they use their belief to rid them of their struggles without seeking a sign from a god or spiritual being.
