Guiding Our Daughters in the Right Direction

Children are the world’s most valued assets. The young women that we raise are going to be future wives and mothers and should be guided in the right direction. In the 21st century there are so many obstacles that our children have to face everyday, and the challenges for young girls are enormous. It is imperative that we communicate, stress how important education is, and ensure that the young women of the future stay on the correct path. We as parents have a duty to our girls and we should not let them down in any way.

Communication between a mother and daughter is extremely important especially during her pre-teen to teenage years. I have found that talking to my girls about anything and everything makes all of our lives a little simpler. Learning to understand what they go through on a day-to-day basis helps me help them. Raising children, especially girls, is not easy by any means, but understanding what they expect from you and what you expect from them, can make life more manageable.

Some of the important topics that should be discussed often between a mother and daughter are sex and dating. Young girls need to understand and feel loved at home so that they do not go outside of the house looking for a replacement for those feelings. Many times the absence of love in a home towards a daughter can lead them to dating older guys, having sexual intercourse early, and teenage pregnancy. These are the types of situations that communication can help avoid. Talking to our daughters and making them feel special is very important.

Planning an all girls getaway for a weekend or for even just a day can help daughters feel special. This gesture may also improve communication between a mother and daughter if they do not have a strong relationship to begin with.
