first i should explain what schizophrenia is, according to pinel(2011) schizophrenia mean "the splitting of phychic functions." it is a mental illness that has many different effects, which according to pinel(2011) affect about 1% of individuals of all races and cutural groups around the world.

o Areas of the brain affected

there are three structures in the brain that are affected by schizophrenia, they are the hindbrain, forebrain, and lymbic system. The hindbrain is the undermost part of the brain located just above the spinal cord and houses the pons, the cerebullum, and the medulla. the hindbrains main function is to control blood circualtion, motor activity, aswell as our balance and posture. according to Dahl(2011) when schizophrenia is present a result of this portion of the brain being affected is shown in the negative symptoms of blunted movement and inappropriate body language signals. Additionally, in severe schizophrenia catatonic behaviors are present, characterized by rigid posture, aimless motor activity and decreased reaction to environmental cues. the forebrain is the largest structure of the brain, inside the forebrain there is the lymbic system, the hypothalmus and thalmus, the corpus callosum, and the cerebral hemispheres which are seperated into a total of four lobes. the forebrains main functionality is to control motor and sensory functions, overall temperatue...
