Introduction

This essay is an attempt to answer two questions: “What is transformational leadership?’ and “Is there a relationship between transformational leadership (“TL”) and emotional intelligence (“EI”)?”. The structure of the essay commences with a literature review examining the background and development of the concept of TL, arriving at a definition, followed by an analysis of the dimensions of TL. Secondly, the concept of EI is introduced, followed by a brief examination/analysis of the competencies of EI. Based on the analyses of dimensions of TL and competencies of EI, the question of a connection or linkage or relationship is addressed and examined; and nature of such relationship is further analyzed. Finally, a few concluding remarks are drawn.
