“A Reasonable Man should be re-filmed in Hollywood by an American director in order for it to become a money-spinning success”
Introduction:
Re-filming “A Reasonable Man” in Hollywood would result in a loss of the South African authenticity as well as the intention of the film.
Paragraph 1:
Gavin Hood’s intention was to educate not entertain
•Educate about South Africa’s past and current issues/ situations
•intention is to educate unknown actors can be used
•USA films are created to entertain
•intention is to entertain famous actors are a requirement for success of the film
Paragraph 2:
The intention and the South African authenticity would be lost.
•people would not get a clear understanding of South African culture or tradition or the South African vibe over exaggeration from USA
•people would not understand the underlying message or the importance of certain aspects of the film over exaggerate and loss of true meaning/ intention.
•Foreigners would not understand the over exaggerated situation and would not be able to gain in terms of an educational perspective no money brought in
Paragraph 3:
The film deals with prejudice
•expects viewer to look further than their own belief share fundamental beliefs
•very important that it is indigenous point gets across correctly
•USA would incorporate a racial issue to create drama which would make the intention of the film fade away and not as meaningful.
Conclusion:
If the film were to be re-filmed in Hollywood it would not become a money-spinning success because the intention and underlying educational message would not be important or relevant to foreigners unless they are interested and even if they were, the movie would be a dramatized dishonest view of situations and circumstances in South Africa and it would not have the same impact.
