Dubai

Dubai, a city of luxury was only fairly recently transformed from the desolate sand dunes to the economic super power it is today. Thanks to the bountiful oil fields and rising oils prices, Dubai was able to initiate an enormous transformation allowing country that was once on the low end of tourism to become one of the most desirable places to visit. This country really animates the saying that money can buy anything.

Dubai’s major revenue and rich history allows for a plethora of tourist destinations. The Bastakiya Quarters of old Dubai were mostly bought out by the government to preserve a piece of Dubai’s history and to give a glimpse into the lives of the pearl divers and how they lived. Dating back to 1799 Al-Fahidi fort was converted into a museum in 1970 to showcase old weapons and pearl diving outfits along with some military artifacts dating back to 3-4 thousand years("World Travel Guide"). One of the more modern tourist attractions in Dubai is Burk Kalifa which is the tallest building in the world to date. It is 2,714 feet high, it features the first Armani Hotel, a mall, restaurants fitness center and the world’s highest public observation deck offering tourists the best view of the city("World Travel Guide").

An unlimited supply of money can even allow you to build a set of artificial islands off the coast in the shape of a palm tree and the world. It is said that the Palm islands are visible from space and are the largest man-made islands in the world. The islands host private residences and hotels. They are also home to leisure facilities including an aquatic theme park which is set to open next year. The World which is not fully completed yet will be a set of 300 separate islands that will mimic the shape of the world.

Being that Dubai is such a melting pot, the ethnicities of the people vary quite a bit. 17% of the population of emirate is made up of UAE nationals, 34% Arab (19% Emirati and 15% other Arabs), 8% Iranian, 50%...
