Write a 100- to 200-word response to each of the following questions. Provide citations for all the sources you use.

• What is discrimination? How is discrimination different from prejudice and stereotyping?

Discrimination is the denial of opportunities and equal rights to individuals and groups because of prejudice or for other reason that have to do with them as a person. Discrimination is different from prejudice and stereotyping because with prejudice its focus is of a group of people of the same race, religion, ethnic background, or where they are from. With stereotyping it is something that someone believes about someone that is something negative and hurtful, while discrimination is when one person is denied the right to work in a place, or go to school, attend a place because of there race,etnic, or religion.

• What are the causes of discrimination?

The causes of discrimination are people being bias, lack of knowledge or understanding of a persons decsions of how they live their life. Racism is a main cause of discrimination even though there are laws put into play for this not to happen, people find their way around it. Also by someones sexual orientation, age, beliefs and gender. Some other causes could be a family member dislikes the person, and because you know them outside of the workplace and do not agree with who they are that is another form of discrimiting against them. What they wear, the color of their eyes. They is a whole lot of causes and in different ways.

• How is discrimination faced by one identity group (race, ethnicity, religious beliefs, gender, sexual orientation, age, or disability) the same as discrimination faced by another? How are they different?
