INDUSTRIAL RELATIONS
Is that part of management which is concerned with the man power of the enterprise-whether machine operator, skilled worker, or manager.
HUMAN RELATIONS and EDP
Subject to two forces that tugs in somewhat different direction. They are not opposed forces, but in reacting to each other, they may generate a new direction. The resultant first forces can be characterized as the human-relations approach, if it is understood not to include any paternalistic or “do-gooder” elements.
The second force affects industrial relations along with all other aspects of management. It is the impact of electronic data processing and the use of computers in business. These are used in employee record keeping and in manipulation of records for lay-off, seniority, and skill registers.
Range of Industrial –relations Specialization
In multi-branch enterprises the pattern of head quarters functional supervision is often duplicated at the operating location by directors reporting to the local operating head. In the top organization of giant corporations the tendency is toward grouping all non-operating activities into control and service categories.
Functional Requirements
Since the industrial-relations program is an essential portion of a sound management plan, it is well consider the basic requirements upon which a successful program is based.
Five functional requirements may be stated:
* Top- Management Support understanding and interest
* Sound Personnel Policies
* Adequate Practices developed to effect these policies
