English Foundations

I believe that Martin Luther King’s dream was to have peace in the American society. To have equality between all people no matter what you looked like, what your skin color or what your nationality was. For, all people to be considered as equal and not discriminated against. Everyone, to have an understanding that all men are created equal and are all the same to God. Dr. King was trying to get through to people that the violence and hatred needed to stop because we were all people who live on the same earth. Since the “I have a dream speech” by Martin Luther King some things he addressed has changed and some have not.

Martin Luther King Jr helped to desegregate the United States so that blacks and whites can live, work and become educated in institution and communities that were not divided by race/color or religion. He single handed spearheaded the civil rights movements which serve as a model for other groups to protect and fight for human rights and social justice within the United States. African-Americans have become professionals and teachers and even Mayors of cities and towns throughout the South.  In the North, Blacks have also progressed in all walks of life.  One African-American of mixed heritage grew up to be elected to the Illinois State House and the United States Senate and made it all the way to the White House.  The ability of Barack Obama to become President was made possible by Dr. King and his comrades who brought the Civil Rights movement to all of our doorsteps.

Martin Luther King vision of a society where race was not an issue and everyone is treated equally is not a complete realization in today society but somewhat of a realization. There are many plights that we as American’s still face however there are different communities that are living out Martin Luther King vision of equality.
