Human Population Growth

Human Population Growth

The two types of population growth for humans are exponential and logistical. Exponential growth is an ideal form of population based on an unlimited environment (Simon, Reece, & Dickey, 2010). The exponential growth of a population is figured by multiplying the current population by a constant factor which represents the trending rate of growth. Logistical growth is where population growth will only take place until it reaches a carrying capacity, or level in which the environment is able to sustain that level of population.

The human population exhibits exponential growth initially then changing to logistical growth. Humans were able to colonize almost all areas of the earth at one point without the worry of the detriments to the environment. Once this does become the case, the human race will begin growing logistically in order to simply maintain based on what the environment is capable of supporting. Humans have began to have population growth in metropolitan environments, some of which are barely able to support the populous. Because of the rapid expansion of the major cities, there have been environmental impacts in the form of pollution and over usage of the natural resources of these areas. The expansions of cities have also caused destruction to natural habitats and ecosystems for both animal and vegetation native to those areas.
