Protein is a chemical that is found in the human body in cell and tissues. The human body is always braking down old protein and making new protein to replace what has been used. When we eat foods that have protein in them it contains amino acids. These amino acids are what the body uses later to make and replace the old protein.

There are two types of protein the first is complete protein. This is a protein source that has all the amino acids that the body needs to produce more protein. Since there are about 20 different amino acids that join together to make all the types of protein that our body needs it is a good way of making sure that you have what you need. The next is the incomplete protein. With this it is low in one or more of the amino acids that the body needs. When you put two or more of the incomplete protein sources together then you have made what is known as complementary protein.

To the amount of protein that a person needs in a day all depends on their age and their gender. To start off children those are between the ages as 1-3 needs about 13 grams of protein a day. The next step is 4-8 years of age and they need 19 grams a day. Children that are 9-13 needs about 34 grams a day. This where the gender differences starts, Girls that are 14-18 need around 46 grams a day and boys that are 14-18 need 52 grams a day. Women that are 19-70+ then only need 46 grams a day and men 19-70+ only need 56 grams a day.

There are risks to having too much and too little amounts of protein. To start off when you have too much protein there might not see any side effects. Then there also can be. Because it goes hand in hand with your calorie intake you can become over weight when you have too much protein. It can also raise you risk for heart attack if you’re not careful.
