PREFACE

This report, Status of Child Education and Women Empowerment and the Role of NGOs, was prepared by intern of NMIMS at Human Welfare Association, Varanasi by the undersigned. The report seeks to develop a better understanding of issues related to economic and social problems faced by women and people employed in handloom sector like weavers, artisans, and hand toy makers in the Lohta suburban region of Varanasi. Further it focuses on the state of Child education in the region.

The study uses an interaction based approach to examine various types of problems faced by the under privileged people, initiatives taken by the HWA organization to support them, challenges faced by the organization and the benefits that these programs provided to the society. Additionally I also had knowledge sharing interactions at the office and during the state level consultation on sustainability of textile sector, which has also augmented my knowledge. The practical application of the study was done through the discussion of various live and closed cases that are placed before HWA.
