The process of developing a psychological assessment measure
Introduction
A psychological assessment is a process-oriented activity aimed at gathering a large range of information. The information can be gathered through psychological assessment tests and from many other sources, such as; interviews, a person’s history and collateral sources (Foxcroft, C., & Roodt, G., 2009). There is a remarkable importance of psychological measures in many sectors (e.g. industrial, government, educational and medical sectors), as they help to identify human ability and potential to perform specific tasks.
Foxcroft and Roodt (2009) share some of the purposes of assessment, stating that psychological assessment measures help to identify strengths and weaknesses. They further elicit that development and progress, leading to decision-making about suitability for a job or field of study; can be mapped through the relevant assessment measures. Training and educational needs, making diagnosis and identifying intervention and therapy needs, is also aided by a well-thought process of assessment measures.
