The Latin term sacramentum has the meaning "a sign of the sacred." The seven sacraments are ceremonies that inform us about what is sacred, noteworthy and significant for Christians. They are regarded as particular occasions for experiencing God's saving presence. The sacraments are signs and instruments of God's grace. There are seven sacraments and they significance is explained below:

The Sacrament of Baptism is the primary step in a lifelong journey of dedication and discipleship. Whether one is baptized as an infant or adult, Baptism is the Catholic Church's way of celebrating and ratifying the embrace of God.

The Eucharist (ALSO CALLED Communion) is considered as a sacrifice and also a meal. We Catholics trust in the real presence of Jesus Christ, who died for the sins of mankind. In the process of receiving Christ's Body and Blood, we will get nourished spiritually and brought closer to the holy God.

The Catholic Sacrament of Reconciliation (can also be called Penance) incorporates three elements: conversion, confession and celebration. In it we find God's unconditional forgiveness for mankind; consequently we are also called to forgive others.

The Sacrament of Confirmation is an established Christians’ commitment in an effort to deepen baptismal gifts. It is one of the three Sacraments of Initiation for Catholics. It is commonly associated with the gifts of the Holy Spirit.

The Sacrament of Marriage (also called the Holy Matrimony), is a public sign that one gives oneself totally to the other person. It is also a public statement about God: the loving union of husband and wife speaks of family values and also God's values.

The Sacrament of Holy Orders (also called Ordination), the priest will be ordained and vows to lead his brethren by bringing them the sacraments (especially the Eucharist), by proclaiming the Gospel of Jesus Christ, and by providing other means to holiness.
