Fred Bailey in Japan: An Innocent Abroad

1. Both of these answers would have their pros and cons of course. However, if I were Fred, I would now decide to pack up family and move back home. It’s not like the family gave it a week and then gave up, they have been in Japan for several months and nothing seems to be working out. If Fred stays, how does he know the company is actually going to turn around and start to work out? He doesn’t. And to me, family means everything; they are the key to happiness. It’s not like Fred and his families were struggling back in the States and with his old job. If I were Fred, I would make my family my first priority and move back home, and let someone else take over.

2. Before Fred was offered this job, and before he decided to accept, there should have been a lot of things that were done differently. I feel that things should have been done differently on both Fred’s boss and Fred himself. His boss should have explained more in depth about the job and what it would consist off, and the amount of time he would need to put into it. Fred should have taken the time to research Japan, the way of living, and about the culture. He should have compared how different the cultures were so 1, he would understand how his family was going to adjust, and 2, how it would be working with people from a different culture. Working with different cultures makes it more difficult for communication. He should have thought what it would do to his family, and make sure they would be able to adjust. I feel like more research should have been done.
