Homosexual Parenting

From the statistics supplied by ACLU (American Civil Liberties Union), as early as 30 years ago, there were about 300,000 to 500,000 gays and lesbians were biological parents in America. Moreover, the last decade saw a sharp rise in the number of lesbians and gay men forming their own families through adoption, foster care, artificial insemination and other means. Researchers estimate that the total number of children nationwide living with at least one gay parent ranges from 6 to 14 million. Based on these increasing numbers, a serious problem remains that whether gay and lesbian individuals can be admitted realistically and automatically as potential parents or not. Definitely, my answer is “yes”. Although the public voice of disapproving homosexual parenting still exists, I insist on my argument that the same-sex parents can have and raise a child or children. The main reason is good parenting is affected most profoundly by a parent’s ability to create a loving and nurturing environment rather than by sexual orientation. This kind of ability does not depend on whether a parent is homosexual or straight.

The potential for sexual abuse, the emotional impact of harassment, and the likelihood that children raised by gay and lesbian parents will become homosexual, are common concerns about gay and lesbian parenting. After simplifying and classifying these concerns, it can be simply said that, the mental health, physical parenting competence of homosexual parents and the likelihood that children reared by gay and lesbian parents can grow normal and healthy, are critical reasons to most people who hold the negative and hostile idea toward homosexual parenting. I would demonstrate these one by one in details.
