The Decision

When reading and listening to the case scenario, there are so many different feelings that overcome you. There is a sense of loss, pain, anger and confusion. Someone has been brutally injured and your partner had just made a huge gaffe with the case. Although after reading, it is certain that these are the individuals who have committed the crime on this woman. As with all situations though, there is a proper method and way of handling a situation and it must be followed. After careful deliberation, it has been determined that the approach that will be taken is to report this directly to the supervisor. It is the responsibility of every officer and citizen of this country to uphold the law and regulations that govern it. Whenever an officer crosses a line, it becomes an ethical issue. Proper procedures were not practiced and for that, it must be mentioned and brought up. As this lady lay in a coma, it is the responsibility of the officers to ensure that all procedures are properly followed. This prevents anything from being questioned later on in court, which could set these guilty individuals free. There are technicalities for every situation and with that, you cannot leave any loopholes for anyone to go through. It is imperative that in this situation, the supervisor take action on the officer in question. Although he did get the confession out of these youths, he did it in an unethical manner. This is unacceptable to not only all of the officer who take the oath “to protect and serve the citizens of the United States”, but the citizens they vowed to protect. In this case scenario, a proper interview would happen, as the law has been established to ensure so. With the supervisor overseeing it, an accurate confession and interrogation can take place, ensuring that the individuals have been made aware of their rights.
