Proposal Junzhe Yu

We propose the following site for feasibility study for a Wind Farm location.

Location

The site is located within the following coordinates: (37.115987˚S, 139.991505˚E), (37.106268 ˚S, 140.095519˚E), (37.269502 ˚S, 139.954507 ˚E) and (37.253342 ˚S, 140.078047 ˚E). The site is located ± 20 km outside the town of Robe, South Australia. It is ± 5 km east of Lake Hawdon North and South. It is located between Lake Hawdon North and South and the Princes Highway. The site is also between the Robe Clay Wells Road and the Old Naracoorte Road. The observation station number is 026026 for Robe Comparison and 026105 for Robe Airport.

Data

The data is provided by Robe Airport which takes detailed measurements every half hour. The data that is provided includes the wind speed and direction as well as gust speed. According to the data the wind speed falls into the wind speed class 7 i.e. 7 to 9.4 m.s-1. Wind roses can easily be estimated from the Robe Comparison data because the majority of wind directions tend to be in two directions. Provided wind roses for every month support the estimation of two more predominant wind directions on the site annually, seasonally or monthly.

Preliminary Assessment

The current land use for the site is either agricultural or unoccupied government owned land. The population density of the area is 1.4 per km2 (DB City.com, 2013). The terrain of the site includes flat plane grassland. The site has access to transmissions lines to a certain extent. The nearest grid connected transmission lines are 30 to 50 km away from the site. The transmission lines are 132 kV lines.

Strengths

Low levels of noise from the wind turbines due to the site being a minimum ±15km away from the nearest...
