How will Obama Care affect Non US Citizens? In 2008 when President Barak Obama was elected as the President of the United States many rejoiced and other were disappointed. The President won some of his votes as a result of his plan to make sure that all Americans would be eligible for Health Insurance. Currently in other countries such as Canada and India, have a healthcare system in place for its residence. The difference in the United States plan is that it “requires” all American to be covered by health insurance, insurance companies having to accept customer regardless of pre-existing conditions. While Obamaare law was put in place to ensure all Americans had Medical coverage this will also include more individuals being eligible for Medicaid. At Present the Medicaid policy for North Carolina states an individual under the age 65 without minor children in the home and not pregnant must be determined disabled according to the State/SSI definition of disability. A disability being defined as having a mental or physical impairment that prevents said individual from being gainfully/substantially employment or result in ones death. This policy has kept several uninsured and unemployed people from being Medicaid eligible.

I chose to discuss this topic because I work for the Department of Social Services in the Medicaid Department six year in Adult Medicaid for Aged Blind and Disabled, which are client who also receive Medicare and often dually eligible for Medicaid and three years for Families and Children. In my years of experience I have encountered people for many different ethnicities back grand and many of them are NON US citizens.

The Medicaid Policy in place now allows children born in the US to NON US Citizens are entitled to Medicaid and even to children who come to the US who have not yet become Legal Permanent residence are now entitled.
