Why I Write

Writing is putting pen to paper (or finger to keyboard), creating words that when put together side by side will show the reader what the writer wants him/her to see or feel. Joan Didion said that it was the subtlest way to invade another's personal space. A written work directly targets the mind-the weakest part of the body, where everything runs freely and safe from judgment, and somehow, when a person reads, there is a big chance that what he comprehends slips into the wall that on any other circumstance is set strongly to block out what the person doesn't think it needs therefore making it extremely vulnerable to written ideas that it can even consider some outrageous propositions.

Same as reading, writing in my opinion makes the mind vulnerable but this involves more care.  The writer gets to choose the words that makes his/her piece resemble what is in his head, allowing him/her to setup the tone and mood of his work. To me, writing means coming to terms with my ideas, what I'm going through and what I need to do.

I write for a couple of reasons. First, is to make sure that I don't lose an idea. Writing it down assures me that I can revisit it when I need/want to, and maybe even add on to it later on. Another reason is to let out what I am feeling at the moment. This way I can focus and reflect on what I'm going through on my own time and in my own terms, without having to think about others' judgment or without having to answer their questions or cater to their advice. The last reason I have for writing is necessity. Like this paper.
